Adirondack Chair – Combining Comfort, Durability and Style

Thomas Lee designed the very first Adirondack chair in 1904. Lee designed the basic model chair, which had the large armrest and slanted comfortable seats. Today, there are a myriad of different styles. There are reclining chairs, lounge chairs, chairs with retractable ottomans and even double Adirondack chairs.

Adirondack chairs are comfortable and stylish chairs that are great for relaxing. You may see an Adirondack chair sitting by a pool, on the front porch, in the backyard or inside of an enclosed screened patio. On rare occasion, however, you will find these chairs inside of the home, but it is designed for outdoor use.

Most often, these chairs are wooden, handcrafted designs. The style of the chair is not only beautiful, but it is very classy as well. Most chairs of this style have a straight back with a rounded top and a large, slanted seat. However, you will find that there are many additional styles being made, which provide more options for buyers looking to purchase an Adirondack chair.

Adirondack chairs are built to last for a long time.  It is rare that you see a chair of sub-par quality.  Even plastic versions are extremely durable and will last for many years.  If you look at it as on a cost-per-year basis,  they are relatively inexpensive, which means that you will definitely get your moneys worth when you purchase this durable chair.

Many outdoor chairs are made from teak, which is a hardwood designed to last a very long time.  This is quite an expensive wood to obtain and often has to be imported from various countries, making the price of the chair even more expensive.  For this reason, cedar Adirondack chairs have gained in popularity.  Cedar is a wood that has been used extensively to make outdoor furniture, particularly in the United States.  Cedar is a very strong wood as well, but is much easier to obtain which makes it cost much less than teak.

Just like teak wood, cedar can last for many years.  Red cedar is the strongest cedar wood, so it lasts longer than white cedar.  However, both are durable and look just as beautiful as teak chairs.  Cedar actually has one advantage over teak: Marks and stains on cedar wood are easier to remove than those on teak wood.  Both woods have the advantage of being very resistant to insects.

What makes this style chair so popular?  Well, many believe that the large armrest gives the chair a unique look.  It is large enough to rest both your arms and a cool drink on a hot day.  In addition, the angled arm rests and the seats make the chair comfortable to relax in.  There are also a variety of different styled cushions that you can  purchase, if you wish.  Cushions not only enhance the comfort, they add additional style and color to the chair as well.

Adirondack chairs were designed for comfort and relaxation.   They are beautifully crafted and will enhance the outdoor area of any part of your home.  Since 1904, they have been popular.  An Adirondack chair would be a wonderful addition to any outdoor setting.
